Teaching Your Course:
Electronic Resources and Support Services

Courses-in-Touch

Courses-in-Touch provides instructors with a number of different tools:

•  Class lists shows you a list of your students, some information about them and pictures.

•  Course Problem Notices gives you the ability to send email notification to a student and the College Office if a student is struggling in your class.

• Online Grading allows you to record final grades directly online.

For help with Courses-in-Touch, the registrar's office has created two user guides.

SAS Computing

SAS Computing supports the instructional needs of School of Arts and Sciences faculty and is a university-wide advocate for incorporating emerging technologies into the classroom. Support is also provided for desktop computing, Penn’s network services, servers, and course administration.

For information about any aspect of instructional technology, see the Instructional Services and Pedagogy Support Services for Faculty which provides a centralized place to ask questions.

Classroom Technology Support
Penn offers a wide variety of “smart” classrooms. Individual classrooms normally have instructions posted for use of installed equipment and also the phone number of the Local Support Professional who you can contact for technical assistance.  You can find your LSP and information about training at the Classroom Technology Services Support Information page.

For a searchable database of classrooms and equipment, see the Classroom Finder.
Developing as a Teacher

There are a variety of resources at Penn to help you develop as a teacher.  Before you start teaching and throughout the semester, you should consult with peers and with your chair about your teaching and any resources your department provides.

Beyond those resources, you should consider the programs and services offered by the Center for Teaching and Learning. CTL can support your teaching in a number of different ways:

•  If you have questions about your class you can consult the CTL at any time (even over the summer).

•  You may also want to be observed and recorded.

•  If you want to discuss your teaching with Penn Faculty outside your department, you should consider the Faculty to Faculty Observation Program.

•  CTL also hosts Faculty to Faculty Lunches where Penn faculty share ideas about teaching.
