Giving Students Feedback
Amanda Reiterman, CTL Graduate Fellow, Art and Archeology of the Mediterranean World
Monday, Oct. 12, 2:30-4
Graduate Student Center 305
As TAs we give students feedback in both obvious ways and tacit, sometimes unconscious, ways. In this workshop, we will discuss how various forms of feedback can best be used to achieve your teaching goals and to enrich your students’ experience. Among others, we will consider the following questions: What is constructive feedback? Does that vary by discipline? What is the purpose of feedback, and what do we expect students to do with the feedback we provide? Drawing upon the workshop participants' experiences, we will devise practical techniques and strategies for delivering effective feedback in a classroom setting, providing appropriate feedback on written assignments, and helping students to interpret and incorporate that feedback.
